Volkswagen to Build Cars in Malaysia, will Start with the Passat from 2011
The Volkswagen Group on Tuesday signed an agreement with Malaysia's DRB Hicom auto group for local vehicle assembly as the Wolfsburg-based automaker seeks to expand its operations in Southeast Asia under the Strategy 2018 growth program. The announcement came after VW abandoned alliance talks with Malaysian state-owned carmaker Proton earlier this year for undisclosed reasons. Read more »

Lotus CEO Says Concept City Car will Enter Production in "October 2013"

Proton to come to India
India's Hero group is in the final stages of talks with Malaysian car maker "Proton" to make small cars in India. It is said that officials from Proton, Malaysia have already visited India and the car is being tested in Indian roads. Proton sales has been hit by recent auto market slump in other countries where the car is already being sold.

Proton Launches New GEN-2 in the UK
Malaysian carmaker Proton has announced the arrival of the revised and to be quite frank, oddly named, GEN-2 hatchback, which is now available in dealerships across the UK. The GEN-2 is offered with a choice of a 70Hp 1.3-liter or 110Hp 1.6-liter engine with prices starting from £8,995 OTR. -More pics after the jump

Chrysler and its “Let’s Refuel America” campaign which locks gas prices at $2.99 for three years isn’t alone in its gas incentive battle. In Australia, Malaysian carmaker Proton is offering $1200 AUD worth of fuel in the form of twelve Caltex $100 fuel cards for those who buy a Satria 1.6 during May. Volkswagen Ends Talks With Proton
Volkswagen has announced that it has terminated talks for a possible partnership with the Malaysian national carmaker Proton. Interestingly, this is the second time in two years that VW has failed to reach a deal with the Malaysian government owned carmaker. The German carmaker however noted that it will step up its efforts to review other possibilities for actively engaging in the ASEAN region
